FACIAL STRUCTURES- & CONTOUR;
Remember that facial contours are determined by the relative sizes, shapes and positions of the facial bones together with the muscles and fatty tissues which lie over them. The skull only provides the basic framework of the head. The muscles of facial expression that insert into the skin are made up of fibres. The fibres of these muscles lie in parallel formations but special muscles called sphincter have fibres which surrounds openings. When these muscles contract, the openings close up.
Muscles with good tone remain in a state of tension even when they are relaxed. This helps to keep the contour firm and and well defined. While muscles in poor tone become slacked. When this happens the contours drop and the appearance of the face changes.
Note: facial and neck muscles exercise is helpful.
WRINKLES & EXPRESSION LINES:
When facial muscles contract, the skin to which they are attached to fail into wrinkles and folds which form across the direction of the underlying muscle fibres. Where muscles interact with one another, the lines produced join together to form a curve. Skin which has good elasticity returns to normal once the muscle relaxes. Skin which lost its elasticity develop permanent expression lines and wrinkles. This happens as a natural consequence of the AGING PROCESS, but can occur prematurely if the fibrous proteins in the skin become damaged.
